West End Gardens has proudly served the community for over 100 years. Harry and Melvin Schnoor, a father and son, originated the business in 1913. It began at 3845 Rockingham Road. Sue Cunningham purchased the business in 1985 and moved the business to its now location at 3153 Rockingham Road to a bigger building in 1990. Loyal customers of the Schnoors and generations beyond still continue to do business with Sue at West End Gardens. Sue grew up learning the floral industry with her mother and family friend doing weddings out of their home. When the opportunity came to purchase a well established family owned florist, Sue's mother encouraged her to purchase the business. A nurse by degree, Sue decided with two small boys to take on the challenge of owning her own business. This allowed her to raise her two boys in a family business. For the first year and half, Sue not only worked as a full time florist but as an ER nurse at Mercy Hospital. She was then able to focus just on the florist with the help of her mother, family and friends. Her lifetime dream of owning a full service flower shop was in full swing. Sue's mother was her biggest cheerleader. Even after her passing her mother remains a constant soul of Sue's business. West End Gardens has continued to service their loyal customers and enjoys new customers as they begin their relationship with the store.
